Childrens Halloween Books

Synopsis

Witches are preparing a nearby town for Halloween. They want everything to be perfect for visit of their little witchlings. But “perfect” for a witchling means lots of dripping green slime and cobwebs with creepy spiders. There is so much to do that the witches call on ghouls, zombies, and skeletons to help with their plans.

Annotation

Author Leslie Pratt Bannatyne adapts the famous poem, The Night Before Christmas, by Clement C. Moore to fashion this childrens Halloween book. Bannatyne is an expert on all things Halloween as shown in her other books: A Halloween Reader: Poems, Stories, and Plays from Halloweens Past, and A Halloween How-To: Costumes, Parties, Decorations, and Destinations.

Illustrator Adrian Tans gives life to the creepy witches and their ghoulish friends. The images definitely have a “haunting” quality, but the rhythmic verse and familiar pattern of the well known poem keep the mood fun and familiar: “The witchlings lay snoring, quite snug in their beds,/ With visions of moist, creeping things in their heads." Perfect for children ages 4 to 8, Witches Night Before Halloween is one childrens Halloween book your witchlings will love to read aloud with you.

Excerpt:

"Twas the night before Halloween and all through the cottages
The witches were stirring their brews and their potages.
Their cupboards were bursting with hop toads and newts
And they'd shined up their pointy-toed fancy dress boots."

Witches Night Before Halloween is a Pumpkin Goblin-approved childrens Halloween book.
